NBA Trade Deadline Reaction

What I think about what happened on Feb. 8th

NBA Trade Deadline

It is currently February 9th when writing this which means that the NBA Tarde Deadline was yesterday. I’m going to review the “big” trades that happened, as well as my top three winners and losers. For starters, it was a pretty underwhelming deadline compared to previous years, we did not get a star being traded such as KD and Kyrie last year. The “big” trades this year happened weeks prior to the deadline.

Winners

  1. Knicks🏀

  2. Mavericks🐴

  3. Celtics🍀

The Knicks are currently in a tie for 3rd in the east and they only got better. They were able to get Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic for a few contracts and a few seconds. No first-round picks lost is crazy. Look for the Knicks come playoff time because they are 10-11 players deep when healthy.

Dallas is trying to climb out of the play in the tournament so they went in for another scorer and a backup big for Derek Lively II. They managed to get PJ Washington from Charlotte and Daniel Gafford from DC. They did give up 2 firsts which could come back to hurt them but the players they got will help more than those rookies in the future. They got rid of Grant Williams who was not loved in the locker room. We’ll see what they do with a deeper and healthier roster.

The rich get richer. Boston was able to get Xavier Tillman, a good backup defensive big, for a couple of seconds, and Lamar Stevens. They also got Jaden Springer for one second-round pick. He is a young wing/guard that has some potential down the line. We’ll have to see if this year they can beat the Heat and make the finals like they should.

Losers

  1. Warriors🗡️

  2. Lakers🌊

  3. Grizzlies🐻

What is happening in Golden State? They currently sit at the 11th spot and out of the play-in out west and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They have young pieces that could have been moved for another “star” as well as a struggling Andrew Wiggins that would hold a little value. Or…they could have blown up the big three. Get rid of Klay or Draymond in hopes of getting Steph better and more consistent teammates. They need changes this offseason or this is definitely the end of their dynasty.

Similar to the Warriors, the LA Lakers did not do anything either. They aren’t quite as bad as they are ninth in the West, but still. They could have moved DLO for a better point guard. I was excited when Lebron had rumors of being dealt but those got shut down real quick.

Disappointing is the best word to describe the Grizzlies’ season and the deadline moves do not help their case. They are having the worst injury luck I have ever seen with literally everyone missing time this season. The deadline they had was questionable. They lost Steven Adams, Xavier Tillman, and David Roddy for Yuta Watanabe, Chimezi Metu, and a few second-round picks. This season is a “rebuilding” season as they have their own pick this year and they’ll hope to do something similar to the Warriors from 2020-2022.

Specific Trades

This trade is odd, definitely good for Philly to provide one of the best shooters ever but still kinda of random. They get another thick wing to go along Tobias Harris and Kelly Oubre. I like it a lot more when they will have a healthy lineup with Maxey, Oubre, Hield, Harris, and Embiid; but we have to wait before we see that, hopefully before the season ends. for the Pacers, I get that Buddy doesn’t fit the timeline but I feel like they could have gotten something more beneficial for them now. We’ll see what they do now at that three spot.

Win-win trade for me. Charlotte gets off the bad contract and a young talent that wasn’t playing for the Thunder, and OKC gets a scorer to help take the weight off Shai. I hope Tre Mann gets a real opportunity In Charlotte because I think he rea;;y can be a good spark plug off of the bench.

Maybe I have a small brain, but what is either team doing? The Raptors traded Thaddeus Young (who hasn’t been good) and Dennis Shröeder (who’s been decent) for Spencer Dinwiddie just to cut him. Two players for nothing essentially. My guess is that Masai (the Raptors GM) is looking for expiring deals so that this summer, he can spaz in free agency. Anyway, I’m still confused about what he’s cooking up.

That wraps up my thoughts and reactions to this underwhelming trade deadline. Let me know what you thought about what happened across the league. Make sure to subscribe…God Bless!
